The Survey Results Show:The Error Of Prejudice Against The Hijab In Netherlands

AMSTERDAM (Arrahmah.com) - A survey of Muslim women all over the Netherlands showed that the majority of users did hijab or veil over their own free will, Radio Netherlands Worldwide launched its website on Tuesday (11/22/2011).

Six out of ten Dutch Muslim women aged 15 to 35 years of wearing the hijab. The survey results are in contrast with the growing opinion in society that the majority of Muslim women began wearing a headscarf at age 19 and not when they were young. Only 16 percent of those surveyed started wearing the hijab when she was only 13 or 14 years.

This study marks the publication of a book on hijab in the Netherlands and is designed to illustrate that many negative prejudices against hijab Dutch society are unfounded.

One of the strongest prejudices is the idea that the hijab is a form of oppression. Facts and evidence of Muslim women themselves seem to contradict this assumption.

The survey showed that, on more than half (or 53 percent) of the hijab Muslim families, not all girls (and sometimes only one) who was also wearing a hijab like their mothers.

The debate about the hijab and niqab has been for some time in the Netherlands. So far, the Netherlands ban Muslim women who work as judges and civil servants to wear the hijab in the workplace. However, the proposed ban on the hijab and niqab in all public places continue filed by a number of parties affected by Islamophobia. (althaf / arrahmah.com)
