Risking Hijab Rather Than a Job

Full name, Win Dwi Mandela. 27-year-old woman had to accept the bitter loss of jobs, in order to maintain the veil which he believed as a form of faith in their religion.

Win that has been working as Physiotherapist since 2004 in West Bekasi Mitra Keluarga Hospital is thrown away by the hospital on the pretext that sought after. Yet for four years working in private hospitals, he claimed never to do harm violations of the company.

Initially, Win is behaving like any other employee at Hospital Partners. It was common knowledge that any Mitra Keluarga hospital is enforcing the ban headscarves for female employees. If any of them veiled, the employee who would not want them to take off the hijab upon arrival at the hospital.

Win did the same when he covered in 2005. For three years he veil apart pairs; left wearing the hijab, the headscarf arrived at the hospital open, then come back wearing a headscarf. For three years, although often haunt her inner restless, he still persist in this way with the justification that the work he was doing was a form of worship.

Pressure Management

Armed with that awareness, Win determined to wear a headscarf when back into work on April 21, 2008. He admitted no one who had friends whom he had to follow his steps. He came out of the lockers where employees change clothes, use a scarf and cuffs, complete with the required daily work uniform company. He wore the hijab when it was black, in line with the hair so as not to attract too much attention.

Win of course refuse to make the letter because it is the reason to resign because of the ban headscarves. However, management remained in his manner. Finally, without any decision, Win leave hospital at 9:15 am after employees were forced to hand over the card, HMO card (Card Medication), and locker key.

A few days later, he got a call from the hospital to come take care of administrative issues. On April 25, 2008, Win was coming to answer the call and request a letter of dismissal by reason of the headscarf ban. The request was answered with threats of Setyodewi blacklist, so that no one even hospital in Jakarta and surrounding areas which will receive the Win to work. This meeting once again to no avail.

Time continues to a week. Win comes to precisely the letter I and II, which calls requesting Win to return to work but still forbidden to wear veils. As a true Muslim, of course he rejected the call. Until finally there came a summons stating III dismissal because Win has been absent from work.

Legal Process

Seeing the lack of good faith on the part of hospitals, Win also take legal action to submit this issue to the Muslim Defenders Team (TPM). During the legal process runs the hospital does not even seem the slightest attempt to reach the best deal. Even the hospital has contacted lawyers Win scare was impressed and asked for Win to back away from this case. Win traveled a long road with patience and courage are not going to be wasted by Allah SWT. Support from various parties, mainly from the Islamic community organizations such as the FPI and Care Forum hijab, came flooding.
